Without a new vision, the future does not look bright. For example, if United Methodist membership decline continues as now during the first decade of the twenty-first century, membership as a percentage of population will drop to the same level as in the first decade of the nineteenth century. If congregations continue to look inward, the great passion for spreading scriptural holiness and reforming the nation will live only in our past.

It does not have to be that way.

My hope is that a new leadership in the Wesleyan spirit will so emerge from young and old, newcomers and veterans, that new vision and new life will result. My prayer is that as we all work together, the future will not only be worthy of the past but far more faithful than ever before."
